About Commissioned Artwork
Do You Do Commissioned Work from Other People’s Photos?
The short answer is Yes. However…. Unlike a traditional artist I do not repaint or re-draw the image. I can make adjustments to the photo and remove unwanted elements, but I do not do any wholesale redraw of the subjects.
What types of photos make the best artwork?
The best photos are not simple straight group or portrait shots those are best left as photographs. The best ones are one that show more the subjects character or scenes where people are doing something and not simply posing. If you are in doubt, you may send me copies and I will be able to look at them and tell if they are best suitable. If you have ones shot from your phone send me the highest resolution possible. If it a print, I can scan it if it is under 8x11 inches.
How does this all work?
Have you ever gone into a fine restaurant with a notable chef and simply left it up to him or her to decide, what to make? I work pretty much the same way. I will often query how literal you want things or what medium you might like, but the rest is up to me.
From the image we choose, I will do my magic. I may create several renditions and styles for you to choose from. If it all goes “bust”, I will simply charge you a $15 “thanks for trying” fee. If you like the artwork here is what I do.
Since I no longer do my own printing, matting or framing, I simply provide the finished artwork on a memory stick at a resolution suitable for the most sizes up to about 16x20 or in some cases larger. My charge for this is $50.
How Do I Get it Printed? Matted? Framed?
You may take it to a local printing place (Kinkos, Office Max, or some of the local specialty printing places), print it yourself, or I can send the image out to have it printed on the surface you choose by some of the printings services I use. Some of these will do printing on gallery stretched canvas or metal, or acrylic. Some will do matting and framing as well. Their prices vary and frequently they run sales and discounts. I can discuss these with you and give you the option of handling it yourself, or I will have it done and shipped directly to you for a 10% handling fee. In any case you own the Digital Artwork completely.
